This interactive lecture discusses child maltreatment and the EMS practitioner’s role and responsibilities when caring for these patients. EMS practitioners are often the first to recognize the signs and symptoms of child abuse or neglect, and therefore have a crucial and unique opportunity to intervene. The primary concern is for the safety and treatment of the patient.

Describe the different forms of child maltreatment
Identify a possible victim of child maltreatment
Provide an appropriate level of care
Interact professionally with caregivers
