Blue Water Medical Course

Immediate Care Paramedics have designed a Blue Water Medical Course (BWMC) to meet the essential needs of individuals and groups undertaking blue water voyages. We believe that Immediate Care Paramedics can deliver and expand upon current courses to ensure that we deliver a course that is fit for purpose, accessible, meets the industry requirements and exceeds the current standard of training and education in this area across Aotearoa.

Designed for all levels of ability and experience there are no prerequisites for the course. It is recommended for anyone to attend who requires the course for a forthcoming voyage or those interested in expanding their knowledge and clinical skills.

The curriculum for the BWMC Course has been based on the fundamental requirements to preserve life in the immediate aftermath of an incident and then to build confidence and practical skills to ensure that prolonged care can be delivered effectively prior to any rescue.

By delivering national and international evidence-based best practices, we ensure that our candidates are given the most current and up-to-date knowledge available during the course. We achieve this through multiple delivery methods within our lessons; these include lecture-based interactive sessions reinforced with real-time real patient-moulaged scenarios. Small break-out hands-on skill stations are incorporated into the sessions for any practical components of the course to ensure adequate time for practice, questions and demonstration of competence.

Incorporated into the course are the psychological tools to manage unexpected outcomes when extended care is unavailable, unsuccessful or futile.
